Mission: Reserva Ejidal de Punta Laguna & Punta Cerrito
Yucatán, México
February 27, 2001

Reserva Ejidal de Punta Laguna, on the border between the Mexican states
of Yucután and Quintana Roo.

On Tuesday February 27, 2001 Wings of Change plane, under the command of Capt. G.L. Scarborough, took off from Mérida's International Airport for a reconnaissance flight over the Northern Coast and Northeastern part of Yucatán, Mexico.

The passengers aboard included Mr. Guy Piña, officer of the Federal Reserve of Ría Lagartos, Mrs.Teresa Puig de Silveira, vice-chair of Pronatura Península de Yucatán's Board of Directors and Mr. Juan Carlos Faller Menéndez, coordinator of the program "Land for Conservation" of Pronatura Península de Yucatán, A.C.

The goals of the flight were:

Flight Partners:

1. To evaluate the conditions of three properties of interest for the "Land for Conservation" program of Pronatura Península de Yucatán. The tracts are being considered for the establishment of a conservation easement (Punta Cerrito) and for direct purchase.

2. To make a general overview of the Federal Reserve of Ría Lagartos.

3. To make a general overview of the Federal Reserve of Ría Lagartos. 3) To do a general overview of the community reserve (Reserva ejidal) of Punta Laguna.

During the flight we had wonderful weather. We were able to achieve all our goals, documenting the important aspects of the land with good photographs. Guy Piña was able to see that one of the marine entrances to the fishing port of Río Lagartos

Punta Cerrito, north coast of Yucután.

was being severely eroded. He also evaluated several areas of the Federal Reserve of Ría Lagartos. Juan Carlos Faller used the photographs and other data obtained during the flight to complete the physical descriptions of the properties. Mrs. Teresa Puig de Silveira, on her first flight over Punta Laguna, where she has been working for more than 8 years, was able to identify, in neighboring properties, some "ecoturistic" developments that do not comply with the environmental regulations for such facilities and that could prove harmful to the community reserve of Punta Laguna.

After more than 3 hours of flight, the Wings of Change plane landed at the Mérida International Airport. The passengers were greatly impressed with the abilities and kindness of Captain Scarborough who was more than willing and capable of satisfying all their flight needs and expectations.
